The Dreaded Night Turtle

Real Name = Daria
Age = 29

I am currently employed full time as a senior (tier 2) technical support representative (and sometimes stand-in management) at a call center in Canada which outsources to major telecommunications companies in the U.S.  I've been there for six years.  Eventually I plan to have my sole income come from my writing.  For now, I'm just looking to get enough published so that I can supplement my income.  I would love to reduce my hours at work and devote more time to my writing.

I work the evening shift, mostly 15:30-midnight.  Most of my writing is done in the late morning/early afternoon before I come to work.  I write every day.

I have an honours degree in English Literature from the University of Manitoba and most of a Masters degree from the same institution.  Before I went into English, I was a Physics major for 2 years.  I loved it, but I loved English more.  I have a solid background in the sciences and a strong sense of literary aesthetics.  I keep up my editing skills by proofreading university papers and other writing for my friends and coworkers.  I've been officially credited as an editor on a Government of Canada official document and a Political Science Masters thesis.  I've done email technical support for years and I produce process documentation for my workplace on a regular basis.

I was Publications Coordinator for Keycon, the Winnipeg Science Fiction and Fantasy convention, from May2005-May2006.  I produced progress reports, flyers, posters, and their program book.  My work was considered by the convention chairs and the Keycon Senate to be the best and most professional documentation that Keycon had seen in years.  I also ran the Keycon short story contest and edited/designed/produced a chapbook of artwork and short stories from local artists/authors to promote the convention.  Copies were sold at the convention and are still selling in local book and gaming stores within Winnipeg.

I work in a corporate environment.  I have a strong sense of professionalism.  I respect deadlines.  I communicate very well with anyone I am working for.

I'm currently working on getting some short stories published, finishing my novel, and learning Linux.
